Our Story
Zonda Beneficials was founded in 1990 in Hastings by Dr Nelson Pomeroy — a scientist who recognised that New Zealand horticulture needed a better way.
At a time when chemical pesticides were the default response to crop pests, Dr Pomeroy saw a different path. He understood that nature already had the answers — predatory insects, parasitic wasps, and other beneficial organisms that had been managing pest populations long before synthetic chemicals existed. What was missing was a way to make those natural solutions reliable, accessible, and commercially viable for New Zealand growers.
Zonda Beneficials was the first company of its kind in New Zealand. What started in Hastings has grown into a nationally respected operation, now based in rural South Auckland, with a reputation built on results, reliability, and a genuine commitment to the growers we work with.
Our Facility
Today, Zonda Beneficials operates a state-of-the-art production facility in rural South Auckland — purpose-built for the work we do.
The facility includes two specialised glasshouses designed specifically for rearing beneficial insects under controlled conditions, plus a custom-built bumblebee breeding facility — one of very few of its kind in New Zealand. These facilities allow us to maintain consistent quality and year-round supply of both biological control agents and bumblebee colonies.
Systematic testing is carried out at every stage of production. This commitment to quality control ensures that the products leaving our facility are exactly what our growers need — live, active, and effective.
Our ongoing investment in research and production allows us to contribute to the long-term development of agriculture and horticulture throughout New Zealand.
How We Work
